2014 celebrates Watt Space, The University of Newcastle Students’ Art Gallery, 25th anniversary. Our major event to commemorate this milestone is a curated exhibition of works by artists who showed at the Gallery as students and now have national and international reputations.
Watt Space is the longest running student art gallery in Australia – most student galleries closed after the abolition of compulsory student union fees.
Originally established after political activism by students in 1989 its agenda continues to be the provision of opportunities for professional experiences for students of the University of Newcastle. Over its life close to 30,000 student artists have taken advantage of the opportunities the gallery provides.
