Watt Space Gallery would like to announce one of three guest judges for the upcoming Student Art Prize….

Meryl Ryan, 
Curator, Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery.


Meryl Ryan is an established, widely travelled curator and arts writer and with a long-term interest in interdisciplinary practice. As inaugural recipient of ANU’s Janet Wilkie Memorial Scholarship for Fine Art, she worked abroad for seven years (including three as Editor for Quarto Publishing, London) before returning to Australia in the 1990s, an elected member of AICA (British Section). Since then she has been a regular contributor to catalogues, journals and symposia; and lecturer (including four years at UoN). As Curator at Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery since 2004, Ryan has managed many award-winning publications and over 50 exhibitions, including most recently Book Club (2017), Happyness (2015/16); and (in)visible (2015). In 2015 she directed the multidisciplinary Art Bender at The Lock-Up Contemporary Art Space, where she consults on selected curatorial projects. Ryan was invited to the annual National Craft Curators Forum from 2010–12, and was recipient of the 2009 ASIALINK Curatorial Exchange to Japan, and the 2013 M&G NSW Fellowship to the Museum of Arts & Design, New York, USA.
